My approach to mentorship is rooted in the belief that research is one of the most powerful tools for educational transformation. Especially in the context of the Brazilian Amazon, I strive to bridge the gap between high-level computing concepts and local challenges.
I guide my students to move beyond being technology consumers to becoming technology creators. Whether supervising academic research or leading Technical Capstone Projects (PCCT), my goal is to foster autonomy, ethical scientific practice, and technical excellence.
Active Research Projects (Under Review)
These projects have been submitted for the 2026/2027 Research Cycle at the Federal Institute of Amazonas (IFAM)
Role: Principal Investigator (PI) and Primary Advisor.
Status: Submitted / Under Review (Grant: PIBIC Undergraduate).
Overview: Building on the method established in my doctoral thesis , this project focuses on capturing interaction data from student engagement with physical-digital objects for trigonometry. The primary goal is to model, clean, and enrich this data with pedagogical metadata to create and release an open-access public dataset for the Learning Analytics community.
Role: Principal Investigator (PI) and Primary Advisor.
Status: Submitted / Under Review (Grant: PIBIC Undergraduate).
Overview: This research proposes the digital instrumentation of a mathematical manipulative (The Mathematical Roulette) using sensors and embedded systems to record and analyze student interactions in real-time. The study aims to evaluate the impact of tangible objects on student engagement and performance through learning metrics and Case Study methodology in secondary schools.
Junior Research Mentorship (PIBIC-Jr)
I have served as a primary supervisor and co-supervisor for several junior research grants, fostering scientific thinking in technical high school students.
Role: Principal Investigator and Primary Advisor (Grant: IFAM)
About: Focused on the design and implementation of a Tangible Learning Object (TLO) to assist students in exploring 3D geometric shapes.
Technical Detail: This research investigated how physical manipulatives, when augmented with digital feedback, can bridge the gap between concrete and abstract mathematical thinking.
Impact: Evaluated as an innovative initiative with high potential for improving spatial reasoning in STEM education.
Role: Principal Investigator and Primary Advisor (Grant: IFAM)
About: Development of specialized software to support families, caregivers, and teachers of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Technical Detail: The project centered on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) principles to create an inclusive interface that facilitates daily management and social reception for neurodivergent users.
Impact: Successfully executed and recognized for addressing critical social barriers through accessible technology.
Role: Co-supervisor (Grant: CNPq)
About: An interdisciplinary study merging Biology and Computing to explore insect biodiversity through illustrated digital dichotomous keys.
Technical Detail: Guided the student in developing interactive keys for insect identification, focusing on software usability and pedagogical alignment for technical education.
Impact: Promoted environmental awareness and computational thinking in the Amazon region.
Project Title: IoT in Agriculture: Smart irrigation using Arduino. (2016 - 2017)
Role: Principal Investigator and Primary Advisor (Grant: IFAM)
About: Implementation of a technology-assisted garden using embedded systems.
Technical Detail: Developed an automated irrigation prototype using the Arduino platform and soil moisture sensors to optimize water usage in small-scale agriculture.
Impact: Combined sustainable development goals with hands-on electronics training for technical high school students.
